EMPOWER Resources

This curriculum was developed as part of a National Science Foundation-supported project, crafted in partnership with fourth-grade teachers to strengthen mathematics and science instruction. Shaped through extensive testing in real classrooms and refined based on teacher feedback, each lesson reflects hands-on, practical experience.

The curriculum’s foundation lies in the effective integration of science, mathematics, and computational thinking, a unique element that enhances its impact. Although primarily implemented during science periods, these lessons also reinforce math concepts during dedicated math sessions.

Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and Virginia Standards of Learning, this curriculum supports a cohesive and relevant approach to achieving key educational objectives.

These lessons are intended to be covered over a series of class periods.
